Landscape

I don't get to do a lot of landscape photography but I find this type of photography as difficult as any I do as a professional photographer. Unlike commercial, corporate, editorial and portrait photography, landscape is extremely dependent on the elements.

Throughout my 25-year career I have been fortunate enough to see nature reveal itself in ways that I can only describe as magical moments. I am honored to be able to document these moments and share them with the world. Beautiful sunset lighting, moon lit backdrops, and robust storm clouds, are a just few features of Mother Natures beauty. Doing landscape photography allows me a chance to slow down, appreciate nature, and indulge myself in the process of making these photographs.

Most of my black and white landscape photography is done with an 8 X 10 large format view camera.  The film is archival processed by hand in trays.  Currently my film of choice is Ilford HP5. When exposed properly the film has a good tonal range for print.  This film can be slightly contrasty so to expand its highlight to shadow ratio I process the film by hand in PMK Pyro.  My negatives are then scanned and brought into photoshop for post production.  The final prints are made from the digital file on a large format Epson printer.

All of my color landscape is made with small and medium format film camera's loaded with fuji chrome film.   Most recently I've been using a 21 mega pixel DSLR digital with excellent results.  Prints are made on a variety of papers from Fuji Crystal Archive to a variety of Ink Jet archival papers.
