Bio
Based in Phoenix, Arizona photographer Brad Armstrong is currently a freelance commercial photographer.
Over the past year Brad has been selected for two prestigious Arizona Projects. Picturing Maricopa 2009, 2010 and 26 Blocks. Both projects are currently on a traveling exhibition.
Brad is a native of New York. At the age of 19, he left New York to further his independence and education in Arizona. Brad attended Northern Arizona University where he studied photography and journalism.
Brad’s award-winning photography career began in 1989 as a photojournalist in Scottsdale, Arizona and most recently worked as a Director of Photography for The East Valley Tribune in Mesa, Arizona. While at the Tribune, Brad lead a team of photographers and videographers on the "Reasonable Doubt" project - a 2008 Pulitzer prize winning news and web piece.
In 1999, the National Press Photographers Association honored Brad with the National Humanitarian Award for saving the life of a child who was struck by a moving vehicle. He has won over 30 State and regional awards including two Arizona Picture of the Year awards and one Best of the West.
Brad’s work has been published in newspapers and magazines and recently featured in an HBO documentary on the late Senator Barry Goldwater “Mr. Conservative.” His photography is held in private collections the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution Washington D.C. and has been exhibited in Phoenix and Scottsdale galleries.
Aside from his busy schedule Brad was also an adjunct professor at at Arizona State University's, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Brad was the Howard Buffett Visiting Professor of Photojournalism (Spring 2010) teaching an idependent study on documentatry photography dealing with Latino borderland issue's.
